About The Committee

The AFA Air Safety, Health & Security Department is made up of expert staff who monitor and work with federal agencies and regulatory bodies like the Federal Aviation Administration, Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security, and the National Transportation Safety Board. ASHSD’s work ranges from ensuring that Flight Attendants can report safety incidents in a non-punitive environment to working on accident investigation teams. As the designated representative of the International Transport Workers Federation, AFA also represents safety, health and security interests of Flight Attendants before the World Health Organization and the International Civil Aviation Organization.

What We Do:

What We Do For You!

The Air Safety, Health, and Security Committee was established in an effort to improve and maintain the standards on board the aircraft by working with Endeavor Air, the Federal Aviation Administration, and AFA-CWA International Air Safety, Health & Security Department. The ASAP program and Fatigue programs also fall under the ASHS umbrella. This Committee also works with the FAA  Cabin Inspector on all aspects of flight safety and standards.

Our Main Goal:

We've Got Stuff Going On!

To provide a safe working environment aboard the aircraft and make sure the safety programs are being maintained to the integrity in which they were conceived and to provide education in regards to the ASAP and Fatigue programs by providing a tri fold that has all the information for both programs and doing Roadshows in bases where you can ask questions and have a better understanding on how both programs work and submitting proper reports for both.

Looking Ahead:

We're Working On Stuff!

Main focus at this time is on pushing through the bill to provide safe standards on board aircraft as it relates to planes being too hot or too cold. We are also working on educating Flight Attendant's on fume events and what to do if you have one and will be providing a "fume resource" card for every Flight Attendant that should be avaliable by June.

Call To Action!

Hey Atlanta, We Need Your Help, NOW!

The Committee needs your reports from the past or present on plane issues involving aircraft that was too hot or too cold  especially any medical events that occurred because of the temperature onboard the aircraft. Please submit any of these to emullins@edvafa.org. I also have links available for the ASAP tri-fold and the Fatigue Tri-fold. Also a link on the bill involving 2hot2cold and a link in regards to fume events.
