1. If you are going on leave, should you email your manager your documents?
Notifying your manager is optional. To open a leave, please contact Sedgwick at 877-225-8005. They will do an intake and then assign a Claims Specialist who will help you through the process. While the leave is pending, you will need to call out to Crew Services as normal until you see that your schedule has been cleared. Employees are responsible for managing their schedule.
2. What is RPL?
If you are or will be taking a taking a leave of absence, whether intermittent or continuous, you can request that Crew Services recode your line RPL for Removed Pending Leave. Once the leave/absences are approved, Crew Pay gets that information directly from Sedgwick and will recode your line accordingly. If you do not have a leave open, or are not intending to open a leave, RPL should not be used.
3. What is FMLA?
FMLA stands for Family and Medical Leave Act. Absences approved under FMLA are job protected and will not be counted as an occurrence. As a Crew Member, to be eligible, you need to be with the company for one year and have worked 504 hours in the previous 12 months from the leave start date (rolling 12-month lookback). FMLA may run concurrently with other types of leaves. If you are not eligible for FMLA but need to miss work on a continuous basis, there may be other leave options available. Please contact Sedgwick for more information.
4. What are some of the different absence codes on my schedule?
FML – FMLA for own health
FAM – FMLA for family care or non-birthing parent newborn bonding
ESL – used for both Extended Sick Leave (Pilots) and Short-Term Disability (FA)
MED – Medical Leave
PFL – New York Paid Family Leave
